Volumizing Blow-Out

Volumizing Blow-Out

How to: Volumizing Blow-Out

You don’t have to live in Texas to enjoy a big, bouncy blow-out. And chances are, you probably already have most of the tools you need to create a voluminous hairstyle that looks like you’ve just left the salon. For everything else, Bio Ionic® has got you covered.

Tools You'll Need

To achieve a voluminous blow-out, you'll need the following tools:

  • The 10X UltraLight Speed Dryer. This hair-dryer can dry your hair in less than 10 minutes without frying it. Instead, Bio Ionic Moisturizing Heat™ Technology infuses moisture into your hair and seals the cuticles to reduce dryness and frizz.
  • A small round brush or square round brush. Bio Ionic® brushes offer features like heat conduction when used with a hairdryer to detangle and style without damaging your hair.
  • A flat iron if you want to create flat iron S-waves. Popular options include the OnePass® Styling Iron, which styles your hair in a single stroke, and the 3-in-ONE Styling Iron that combines a wand, curling iron and flat iron.
  • Finishing products like hairspray and Bio Ionic® 2-in-1 Style & Shine Cream. This styling cream strengthens your hair and adds shine while reducing the appearance of damaged hair. Use these products to maintain the volume and texture of your blow-out.

Step 1: Rough-Dry Your Hair

To start, shampoo and condition your hair to ensure that it's clean, nourished, and moisturized before styling. Rough dry your hair with a towel so you don't overexpose your hair to the blow-dryer's heat, however do not dry your hair completely with the towel—you need to blow-dry it to achieve this look.

When your hair is damp (not soaking wet), brush through to ensure that it's detangled. Brush your hair gently without tugging on the roots—hair is most prone to damage when wet. Otherwise, you may damage the cuticle, which can lead to breakage.

Next, apply a heat protectant like Bio Ionic® High Speed Blow Dry Primer to keep the heat from damaging your hair. If you don't use a protectant, the heat damage could result in dry, brittle and discolored hair with split ends.

Finally, use your fingers and a low setting on the blow-dryer to dry your hair about 80%. You'll dry your hair completely with the next step and learn how to make S-waves with a flat iron.

Step 2: Section And Dry

Part your hair into 1-inch sections to create the individual waves and to make styling more manageable.

For the traditional brush method, go through each section, wrapping hair around a round brush. Use the blow-dryer to dry the hair completely while it's still attached to the brush. Dry your hair with medium heat — high heat could damage your hair even with the heat protectant. Repeat this process until you've dried and styled every section of your hair.

If you want to learn how to do waves with a flat iron, start with each section of hair and clamp it between the iron. Create an S-shape with your hair and clamp each section where the hair naturally bends. Repeat this process with every section and like the blow-dryer, use a low or medium setting to create your flat iron S-waves.

Step 3: Heat Your Roots

Once you've finished your blow-out, lift your hair in sections and hold the blow-dryer over the roots. Repeat this process across your entire head until you've dried your hair to the roots. Your hair should feel dry to the touch with no frizz or flyaway hairs.

Step 4: Tousle and Go!

Now that your hair is dry and voluminous, tousle your hair for a final touch, then apply a hairspray or finishing product like Bio Ionic® Anti-Frizz Smoothing Cream. The cream prevents frizz so your hair won't dry out or lose its volume. With the hydrating formula, your hair stays moisturized without feeling greasy and stays protected from heat and humidity.
